Broom Development Engineering has been established since 1982 and is a research and development service to the automotive, aerospace and associated industries. It provides an efficient design, prototyping and small volume manufacturing capability using up to date techniques and technologies. A wide range of projects are undertaken against basic concepts or to complete detail drawing packages either within the established working practices of the customer or as a completely independent project. All business is carried out on a secure private estate ensuring customer design and product confidentiality. It has good access to the motorway system.

Customers include Daewoo, Honda, Suzuki, Triumph, and Yamaha for design and manufacture of components and assemblies for a variety of demanding applications.

Recent projects include:

• Design and manufacture of a new three wheeled concept car for low cost personal transport
• Chassis materials research for a 250cc ultra-light racing motorcycle
• Modification and full operational proving of a standard motorcycle to meet the demanding specification of a military application
• Oil and water cooling sub-system design and testing
• Automotive and aircraft engine fuel/ air flow
• Prototype car seat mechanical systems
• Automotive ignition system installation and proving
• Automotive and aircraft engine dynamic testing and evaluation
• Motorcycle inclination and tank/ wheel impact testing rigs.
• Development and production of Flylight's DoodleBug ultra light-weight flying machine

Many of the above programmes involved the design and development of dedicated assembly jigs and instrument dynamic test rigs. For all testing undertaken, full analytical reports are submitted with recommendations where appropriate.

The business also manufactures the Hesketh range of motorcycles and provides world-wide support for maintenance and upgrades. Over 80% of all parts of the machine are manufactured in-house including the 90º 'vee' twin double overhead camshaft 992cc engine. Developments of the motorcycle continue to provide enhanced safety and performance and, to ensure the design maintains its market appeal, in-house styling resources are utilised.

We are committed, where commercially viable, to the education of others in the engineering skills we employ. Our background of skills coming from practical and long experience in all fields of development and testing together with the necessary associate machining and fabrication abilities required to do this type of work makes us ideal for that special job.

We find that we can bring a value to any customers job. We have the ability to work within the customers working practices and systems to solve a temporary in house skill shortage. If required we can work on a project in isolation for security or practical reasons.

The ranges of jobs undertaken are from the one turned bush to the complete project. We never prejudge ideas however unusual; in fact we prefer this type of work together with light plane, motorcycle or light utility vehicles together with any parts but will consider anything and give our best advice when asked.
